LIFE Moor Space
LIFE Moor Space
Connecting the Humberhead Levels LIFE20 NAT/UK/00697
Currently active and completing in December 2026 the project aims to further the restoration efforts on Thorne and Crowle Moors. The project is being run by Natural England in partnership with Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust.
This project follows on from That’s LIFE Restoring the Humberhead Levels.
Key aims of LIFE Moor Space
- Restore 400ha of degraded lowland peat bog through water level management, scrub removal and land acquisition.
- Work in partnership with land managers within or adjacent to the SAC providing practical advice, training and support to identify alternative funding that delivers land uses that work for them and the SAC.
- Promote better understanding and awareness of the value of the SAC to a wide range of audiences in the UK and Europe. There will be a focus on technical audiences, actively replicating and transferring lessons learned and best practice.
LIFE Moor Space also provides the opportunity for volunteers to get involved. Volunteering is available both with Natural England and Lincolnshire Wlidlife Trust, more details can be found on our volunteer page.
Volunteer activities will be focused around monitoring, including monitoring of wildlife and water levels. Further activities may include scrub removal and sphagnum planting. Please get in touch if you are interested.
Contribution from the EU
The LIFE programme is the EU’s funding instrument for the environment and climate action. Created in 1992, it has co-financed thousands of projects.
Funding provided by LIFE is matched by both monies and staff commitment provided by Natural England and Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust.
Reports and Documents
Through the life of the project we will create a number of reports, information notes etc. These documents will be made available on this page.
